Aromatically seductive, with notes of bright berries, intermingled with menthol, tar and tobacco. Equally enticing, the palate bursts with red fruit, smoke, mint and herbs. A classic Barolo, the tannins are still quite pronounced, though they have certainly softened, yielding a supple and elegant expression of this Monforte terroir. A beautiful Barolo that is ready to drink now or could be laid down for another few years.
"Drawn from four plots in Monforte, Diego Conterno's Barolo is proudly old-school, using cement tanks and large barrels. Fragrant, light aromas of hedgerow berries and a touch of earthiness lead to a vibrant palate with sapid red fruits and a hint of graphite supported by fine tannins and bright acidity. It's certainly not a blockbuster, instead trading on delicate aromatics and nuance of flavour, but it's a lovely Barolo to pair with roast beef or grilled portobello mushrooms. Classy. Drinking window: 2023-2032."
