Fans of the Recta Pete may know that a good amount of Nebbiolo from the Roncaglie cru goes into that wine. In 2019 Dave was given permission to use the Cru name and decided to launch this Roncaglie as part of his special single vineyard wines. Roncaglie is historically considered a Grand Cru of Barbaresco and the wine definitely represents it well. Elegance on both the nose and palate is combined with very structured tannins for long aging. The grapes that go into this wine are always the last of Barbaresco harvest. It’s a zone of Barbaresco that does not suffer the heat as much, and loves a traditional long hang time on the vine to build the structure. The wine is open fermented using natural yeasts and hand plunged once every two days. Aged in 10 year old French oak barriques for two years before bottling.

On the 2020 vintage:
"The 2020 Barbaresco Roncaglie shows a distinctly earthy, savory expression of Barbaresco, with the fruit pushed more into the background than it is in some of the other wines in the range. Dried herbs, flowers, mint, macerated cherry and sweet pipe tobacco all open in the glass. The Roncaglie is not an overt wine, rather it is a Barbaresco built on subtlety and nuance."
