Domaine de la Sarazinière

Burgundy (Bussières)

Domaine de la Sarazinière takes its name from the lieu-dit surrounding the home where the domaine was created in 1926 by Claude Seigneuret. The estate is located in the Burgundian village of Bussières, one of approximately 40 entitled to bear the Mâcon-Villages appellation label. The Chardonnay vines Claude planted almost 100 years ago now compose the cuvée that bears his name. Today, the estate is run by father and son team, Philippe and Guillaume Trebignaud. The domaine is now over eight hectares and most recently has bottled both a Pouilly Fuissé and Pouilly Fuissé 1er Cru Vers Cras. The clay/limestone soils of Bussières inform the majority of the white wines with their edgy, mineral character.

While not certified organic, the father and son team work with the conviction that only living soils, plowed regularly and not chemically treated, can communicate the unique mineral character of each vineyard to the wines. Harvest is by hand, fermentations are by native yeast and aging takes place either in tank or largely neutral barrels with minimal sulfite additions only at bottling to protect the wines. In short, these are wines without artifice. Pure, mineral Chardonnay with definition and length, which showcase their precise place of origin at the boundary of Burgundy and Beaujolais. The wines of Domaine de la Saraziniere embody the finest elements of Burgundian winemaking with their elegance, subtle textures and superb aging potential. Remarkable wines and some of the best value White Burgundy!
