Appellation: Crozes-Hermitage (Northern Rhône)
100% Syrah. Selection from a parcel with very low yields, planted 50 years ago by their grandfather next to the family farm. Located in the south of the appellation along the Rhône river, these vines undergo a lot of stress during the summer as the topsoil is shallow and very sandy on top of bedrock, resulting in a wine of concentration and power.
Harvesting by hand is done as late as possible to insure the full ripeness of berry, seed and stems, because the grape bunches are fermented whole. The wine is aged in demi-muid barrels for 12 months.
The concentration in this wine is just phenomenal, with rich strawberry jam notes while staying fresh at the time. Power and structure, well-balanced with a long and elegant finish.
