Intellego
Swartland
Intellego Wines was founded in 2009 by Jurgen Gouws, in the Swartland appellation in South Africa. Ever since, his philosophy of minimal intervention and intuitive winegrowing has resulted in beautiful wines that express the character of the grapes, the soils and the climate of the area.
Jurgen is constantly looking for ways to work even more in sync with nature, by adjusting to the seasons and what he observes from the terroir. He uses organic practices and does not irrigate the vineyards. In the winery, he lets nature take its course during the fermentation, and loves to experiment with extended skin contact on his Elementis wine made from old bush Chenin Blanc vines, and The Sleeping Co-Pilot, a Viognier. His red wines include Kolbroek, a varietal Syrah named after a type of pig, and Kedungu, a blend of Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, named after one of his favourite surfing spots in Bali.
Every Intellego wine tells a unique story, expressed through the labels designed by a local artist. They are all about the balance between human and nature.
