When winemaker Bisso started took over this vineyard, documents said it was planted with Muscat and Dolcetto. He was planning to make some bulk wine out of them. However, that plan soon changed when he was quick to notice that some vines looked different from Dolcetto. It took him a few years of genetic analysis to identify these vines as Barbera, Freisa and Brunetta di Rivoli, which were then picked and fermented separately. Initially he used those wines to top up the barrels of Dolcetto during ageing.

However, after working with Dolcetto since 2012, Bisso was surprised the final wine didn't resemble it at all. Back in the vineyard, Bisso took more leaf samples for genetic analyses. He found Brunetta di Rivoli, Uvalino, Malvasia di Casorzo, Neiran, and Bonarda Piemontese. The vines that were Dolcetto, turned out to be a clone that was planted in 1972 but is extremely rare now. Bisso now makes a proper field blend out of the vineyard. His Dolcetto clone makes the wine more spicy, phenolic and of a deeper colour than the most common clone of Dolcetto, while still delivering a fruity wine with notes of raspberries, strawberries, and flowers.
