Friuli (Oslavia)

Nestled in Oslavia at the Slovenian border, makes wines like no others: they are mavericks!

Created in the middle of the 20th century by his father, Stanko inherited the estate and decided to keep on making long skin contact wines (more frequently called "orange wines") in the organic way. In 1995, Stanko started making wines with no chemical treatments and 2002 was the year he totally stopped adding sulphites. The very same year he created his own bottles (half a litre and one litre) and corks to allow the wine to age better and also to make its consumption easier.

His wines are incredible regarding the energy and the time Stanko puts in the bottles. The grapes are harvested manually and the fermentation takes about 4 months. Then, the wines age for 3 years in large wooden barrels and 1 year in bottle before being released. In the end, the process results in amazingly complex and profound wines that can age for years.

He defined his own wines as "Slovenian style of Friuli wines" and when you asked Stanko what wine is for him, his response was always: "Experience, hearts and hands..."

After the untimely demise of this pioneer winemaker, his son Sasa has taken on the mantle of crafting some of Italy’s most unique and astounding wines. There is nothing like them!
