Together with their daughter Christina and her husband Peter, Franz and Christine Netzl cultivate 28 hectares of vines in Carnuntum in north-eastern Austria, a region also known for its remains of an ancient Roman fortress.
The Danube river and warmer lowlands around Lake Neusiedl have a profound influence on their vineyards. With a range of microclimates and soils (loam, löss, sand and gravel), they are able to grow many different varieties successfully, including Zweigelt, Weißburgunder, Grüner Veltliner and Chardonnay.
Respecting nature, the family treats the grapes as gently as possible, so that the wines are an expression of the soils and climates of their vineyards. The two generations complement each other perfectly, combining Franz’s expertise and traditions with Christina’s innovative character. Their goal is to support and create the perfect conditions for their grapes every year, farming organically. All wines are characterized by freshness and the purity of the fruit.
