Made in tiny quantities, Olek's wines are quickly becoming the stuff of legend. From old vines on the renowned Cru of Roncagliette, Olek's 2018 Barbaresco is stunning. It displays perfumed sour-cherry nose with hints of iron, already showing some development. Austere, perfumed cherry fruit with firm tannins on the palate. Elegant and quite tightly wound this is a real showstopper and a candidate for some serious ageing.
This Nebbiolo is made from grapes grown in Olek’s front yard, a small parcel his family planted around fifty years ago. The site is exposed full south and its firm clay-limestone soils lend the Nebbiolo from here power and finesse. The grapes are macerated on the skins for two months before being pressed off to old botti for a couple of years. A wine of incredible complexity, power and poise encapsulating the very finest elements of Nebbiolo, for which it is so famous.
"Lustrous ruby. Captivating cherry and wild-strawberry nose with just a suggestion of sweet spice. Rich tangy, youthful cherry fruit and gripping tannins. Long and animating. (WS)"
