Grape variety: Pinot Noir
From the Bouzy Grand Cru village, this is 100% Pinot Noir from a 0.6ha plot of over 30 year old vines. Vinified in oak, this is a powerful Champagne, balanced by a serious vivacity representative of its origin, the heart of Bouzy. Dosage: 1 g/litre. Only 3,640 bottles produced.
On the 2015 vintage:
"Nicolas Maillart has crated some of the finest expressions I have tasted of his villages of Ecueil and Villers-Allarand, yet it is in Bouzy that he crafted his greatest achievement. The heart of this legendary grand cru has been well defined in all of its characterful presence by the focused style of Maillart. with freshness, crunch and tension. This is no easy feat in a season of generous ripeness in the most powerful cru in all of Champagne. More red berries than black, it's laced with mixed spice that lingers with excellent persistence. Chalk minerality infuses texture and freshness, while ripe malic acidity drives a refreshing and elongated finish. A dosage of 1 g/L is indicative of an acute attention to detail - most would simply revert to zero, but even 1 g/L makes a difference. A terrific take on one of Champagne's greatest crus."

"This is the first vintage of Jolivettes, Maillart’s single-vineyard pinot noir from the lieu-dit of the same name in Bouzy. It was vinified entirely in barrel, which seems to amplify the wine’s generous breadth and the intrinsic fullness of fruit typical of Bouzy, although it remains impressively lifted and energetic, with a supple, suave texture and a lithe finesse. While the label says Extra Brut, it was disgorged without dosage in March of 2019, and it’s excellent as a non-dosé, feeling harmonious and complete, and highly expressive of place."
