Grape variety: Barbera
Country: Italy
This is 100% Barbera from the Ferrione vineyard, with vines planted on a west facing hill at an altitude of 450 meters. Hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel with minimal sulfur added. After fermentation, the wine was aged for six months in large oak casks (botti grande). Full of black and red berries, plums and a hint of herbs and spices, this is a fruity wine with fine-grained tannins.
On the 2022 vintage:
"A deeper purple with hint of magenta, the 2022 Barbera D' Alba Ferrione was fermented in stainless steel and raised in botti for six months. It's fresh and elegant, with ripe notes of fresh plums, baked earth, and violets. Medium-bodied, it fills the palate with a weightless feel and good concentration. This is a crowd pleaser, with notes of candied black cherries and a hint of mocha, ripe, supple tannins, a fresh, crunchy feel, great acidity, and good ripeness throughout. An easygoing red, it handles the heat of the vintage as it retains very good freshness. Drink it over the next several years."
