The I Vigneri Etna Rosso is made from the grapes that vineyard owners traditionally pass on to the workers – I Vigneri – to make wine for daily consumption, although this certainly is a few steps above that. In the capable hands of Salvo Foti, Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes shine in this foot trodden wine. The grapes are macerated on the skins for eight days, before going through a spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. Afterwards, the wine aged for six months in amphorae, buried underground. Expect intense red fruits and hints of smoke and earthiness.
"The 2024 Rosso I Vigneri wafts up with a beguiling blend of crushed ashen stone, dried rose, lavender and smoky black cherry. This is juicy in character yet deep and complex, with perfumed wild berry fruits and crunchy mineral tones as a mix of brisk acidity and edgy tannins adds youthful tension toward the close. It leaves the palate completely refreshed, even as the cheeks pucker and notes of raspberry and spice slowly fade. I could also imagine this with a slight chill. It's a total pleasure to taste. Drinking window: 2025-2030."
